Reversal: Contentment in Christ

Tonight Phil talked about contentment and how our focus on Christ can help us to be content in our current circumstances. As an example he used Paul, who went through many trials while in ministry but was content, no matter what situation he was in he was content through Christ’s strength.

I know for me, I usually try to figure everything out by myself and only turn to Christ when I am in a tough situation. I was really challenged tonight to focus on Christ in ALL circumstances, good or bad. I find that many times I let my blessings like a good job, friends and family be idols in my life and find contentment through those and not Christ. Phil challenged us to think of five things that are really close to us and then take them away and see if we’re still happy. I know I’d have a really hard time if I lost one or two of those things on my list, much less all five. How about you?


Philippians 4:12-13
12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
